Call for applications: National Open Research Data Prize 2023

For the first time, the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences are announcing the National Prize for Open Research Data (ORD Prize). It promotes innovative practices in the field of Open Research Data (ORD) and specifically aims to advance the transition to open research practices. The National ORD Prize is part of the National Action Plan "Open Research Data," which the Academies are implementing as part of the National Strategy for Open Research Data. Open research data promote transparency, reproducibility, and collaboration within the scientific community, and enable society to benefit from scientific knowledge. By recognizing and supporting practices in the field of Open Research Data, the Academies are promoting progress in science and society.

Applications accepted until the end of August

Applications for the National ORD Prize 2023 are now open and will be accepted until August 31, 2023, 5:00 PM CET. Researchers who wish to apply should use this application form. Researchers from all career levels and scientific disciplines working at Swiss research institutions, such as universities, universities of applied sciences, federal institutes, and universities of teacher education, are eligible to apply. Early-career researchers are also encouraged to submit their research projects.

A total of three ORD prizes will be awarded: "Gold" with a prize amount of 10,000 Swiss francs, "Silver" with a prize amount of 7,000 Swiss francs, and "Bronze" with a prize amount of 4,000 Swiss francs.

Reuse of research data

The National ORD Prize 2023 is themed "Reuse of Research Data." Projects will be recognized where either data generated by other researchers are reused or where researchers have curated their own data in a way that explicitly facilitates their reuse.

Projects will be evaluated based on two main criteria: the first criterion is the methodologically innovative reuse of data, assessed in the context of the research field's specific practices. The second criterion, the application-oriented reuse of data, focuses on the positive impacts associated with the data reuse of the project. These may include scientific or societal innovations, educational applications, or contributions to future generations.
